Les temples d'Angkor - Day 1

Bon, y a pas trop d'effet de surprise pour cet article mais il faut quand meme le dire: ON A VU LES TEMPLES D'ANGKOR!
On dit que c'est la 8eme merveille du monde, et on comprend bien pourquoi...

Angkor est un fait un gigantesque site regroupant les ruines de 1000 temples differents! Toutefois, les plus visites se comptent au nombre de 40 et attirent de 2 millions de touristes par an.

On va pas vous faire un cours d'histoire sur Angkor (il suffit d'un clic sur wikipedia!) mais en gros ce fut la capitale de l'Empire Khmer qui prospera du IXe au XIIe siecle. En 2007, une equipe scientifique a meme conclu qu'il s'agissait de la plus vaste cite preindustrielle qui ait existe (1000 km2 au coeur desquels se trouvaient les temples).

Les temples se trouvent aujourd'hui au milieu d'un parc et sont relies les uns aux autres par des routes qui se pretent aux touristes se deplacant en tuk-tuk (le plus commun) ou ... en velo, ce qu'on a decide de faire!
Sur les conseils d'un couple charmant de francais, nous avons loue des velos et ca nous a permis de bien plus en profiter, de faire des economies et de se faire les muscles (on a quand meme pedale 100 km en 3 jours dans la cagnasse!).

This article may not come as much of a suprise to most of you, but we still have to say it: WE SAW THE TEMPLES OF ANGKOR!
People say it's the 8th wonder of the world, and we can easily understand why...

Angkor is actually a gigantic site containing the ruins of over 1000 different temples! 40 of which, are the most visited, these ones attract 2 million tourists per year.

We're not going to give a history lesson about Angkor (you can just click on wikipedia!) but in a word, it was the capital of the Khmer empire, which flourished from the 9th to the 13th century. In 2007, a scientific team even concluded that Angkor had been the largest preindustrial city in the world (1000 square kilometres, the temples being at its core).

The temples are now in the middle of a park and are linked between each other by roads totally appropriate for tourists travelling mostly by tuk-tuk and sometimes... by bike, which we decided to do!
Following the piece of advise of a lovely couple of french people, we rented 2 push bikes: it was good for the scenary, for the wallet and for the muscles (we cycled 100 km in 3 days under 40 degrees!).

Enough of the bla bla, here are the temples of Angkor one by one...We took more than 500 pictures, so it was very to down select 80 for the blog! Since your computer will probably sulk if you're asking it to open a page with 80 pictures, let's just start with day 1.
