A week in Manali

Welcome to the Himalayas!

Nous voici qui echappons encore a la chaleur indienne, et cette fois c’est direction l’Himalaya!
Le trajet en bus Amritsar – Manali fut long, TRES long. 14h de transport de nuit, dans un bus gouvernemental (sieges pas inclinables) et sur les routes de montagnes, ca fait mal. Pour resumer le truc, nous n’avons pas ferme l’œil (surtout Gearoid car les sieges sont trop petits pour lui) entre 16h et 6h du matin !
Premiere destination : Manali (Vashisht pour etre plus precis), petit village de quelques milliers de personnes a 2000 metres d’altitude. Nous nous retrouvons en pleine nature, au milieu des montagnes, a respirer de l’air frais. Malgre le cote un peu Goa version Himalaya (PLEIN d’occidentaux), difficile de pas tomber sous le charme…

Once more, we are escaping the Indian heat and this time: direction the Himalayas !
The bus journey Amritsar – Manali was long, VERY long. 14 hours of transport by night, in a governmental bus (means no way to incline the seats) and on mountains’ roads, it’s painful. To sum it up, we (mostly Gearoid because the seats were too small for him) did not close our eyes between 4pm and 6am!
First destination: Manali (Vashisht to be more precise). It’s a small village where live only a few thousands of people, and that is at around 2000 meters. Here we are, surrounded by mountains in the middle of nature, breathing fresh air. Despite the Himalayan version of Goa (LOADS of westerners), difficult not to fall in love...

Notre hotel était fabuleux mais vu que presque tout etait en bois, on a eu un petit compagnon pendant les ¾ du sejour : une petite souris (qu’on a appelee Stewart)!
Au debut, c’était marrant, mais beaucoup moins apres 2 nuits reveil a 3 heures du matin a cause du bruit. Gearoid est donc devenu obsede a l’idee d’attraper Stewart (je l’ai surnomme « le chasseur ») car le piege a souris ne marchait pas et Stewart commencait a squatter. On a donc du attacher un fil a couture allant de la « porte » du piege au doigt de Gearoid afin qu’il puisse l’actionner lui-meme. Gearoid a veille une heure comme ca, il voulait meme que j'attende moi aussi, plantee en face de lui, pour prendre une photo de lui capturant Stewart (c’est mort, je suis pas givree moi !).
Mais Stewart était super intelligent et ne s’est jamais laisse attraper…

Our hotel was fabulous but since it was almost all in wood, we had a little companion during the ¾ of our stay: a little mouse (we called it Stewart)!
It was funny at first but after two nights being woken up a 3 in the morning because of the noise, way less. Gearoid thus became obsessed about catching Stewart (I even called him “the hunter”) because the mouse trap wasn’t working and Stewart was starting to seriously abuse of our hospitality. We had to tie a thread from the trap’s door to Gearoid’s finger so he could make it work himself. Gearoid waited an hour like that and even asked me to wait standing up in fron of him so that I could take a picture of him catching Stewart (no way, I’m not as crazy as you Gearoid!).
But Stewart was super-clever and never let us catching him...

On a aussi fait quelques marches et nous voila marchant le long de la riviere allant de Vashisht jusqu’a Old Manali, sous un jour ensoleille

Et la, marchant au travers de la foret pour atteindre la cascade...magnifique...

(sur la derniere photo, si vous regardez bien vous trouverez un petit point rouge vers le haut a droite: c'est une tente sur un terrain tres pentu et au milieu de rien du tout! J'admire)

Et on a aussi profite de notre semaine pour faire quelques activites.

Perso, j’ai fait mon niveau 2 de reiki avec ma prof de Goa, Rittu (elle est originaire de Vashisht mais fait les saisons). C’était super de la revoir !

And since we stayed a week, we decided to do a few activities.
I did my level 2 of reiki with Rittu, my teacher in Goa (she’s originally from Vashisht but does seasons), it was great meeting her again!

J’ai aussi du commencer mes candidatures pour l’an prochain. La, faut le dire, c’était pas la meilleure idee de l’annee. Entre les coupures de courant, la lenteur de la connection internet, l’incomprehensible absence des programmes adobe reader et word office dans les ¾ des cyber cafes et surtout cet IMBECILE de cyber cafe qui m’a flanque un virus sur ma cle USB (faut le faire de pas avoir d’anti-virus quand on est blinde de touristes 24h/24 !), j’avoue, c’était vraiment pas facile.
Gearoid, quant a lui, s’est pris 3 jours dans la montagne pour apprendre le snowboard, mais ca, c’est un autre article…

And I also had to start my applications for next year. Ok, it was really not the best idea of the year. Between power cuts, slow internet, the unbelievable absence of the programs adobe reader and word office in ¾ of the internet cafes and most of all this IDIOT of internet cafe who put a virus on my USB key (you must really be stupid not to instal any anti-virus when you’re packed with tourists all day!), I have to say: it was far from being easy.
Gearoid took 3 days up in the mountain to learn snowboarding, but this will be in another article...
